Cuyama is a high desert community embroiled in a fight for access to water, as agricultural giants Grimway Farms and Bolthouse Farmmove to limit their supply. To address the water disparity in Cuyama, artists from across the country are exploring the issue through the Cuyama Water Justice Fellowship. The fellowship intends to unite the community through art and focus on residents’ connection to their water supply. It is being facilitated by local nonprofit organizations Blue Sky Center and Quail Springs as part of their larger project, “Building the Cuyama Valley Coalition of Water Stewards.” Originally aired on KCSB.

In 2015, Plains All American's oil pipeline, carrying oil from the offshore Santa Ynez Unit, ruptured along the Gaviota Coast. The spill spread across 150 miles of California's coast, killing wildlife, harming residents, and hurting the economy. The initial rupture occurred because of a flawed pipeline design and inadequate pipeline management, leading to a catastrophic rupture. Now, the new owner and operator, Sable Offshore Corp, is attempting to restart the same pipelines without effective corrosion prevention. With the potential for another oil spill looming, community members are fighting back against Sable to protect vital natural resources and the coastline. With several legal fights underway, Mavis Holley has the story.
On March 1st, the Santa Barbara Transgender Advocacy Network (SBTAN), organized a march in Downtown Santa Barbara. The march included speeches from transgender people, the broader LGBTQ+ community, and allies. Regarding the recent political pushbacks that have negatively affected the transgender community, KCSB's Mavis Holley spoke with Megan Overland, who is a part of SBTAN, about how the Santa Barbara transgender community can be supported going forward.
